Although the lights were originally developed for use in underground mines, they have been installed in many diverse situations where stop / go control is required. With simple control logic, the polarity on the wires is reversed to change colour and either colour may be flashed, by pulsing the power, without degradation of the lights. Attachment of a sun shade, (similar to Main Roads’ traffic lights) can allow them to be used at outdoor locations.

Typically they are powered and controlled by a Ringway ‘Traffic Controller’ – ALSUP_24 (TF) – to provide a comprehensive block section traffic control system.
